Lighthouses Of The Maritimes
When it comes to nature photography one of the most exciting subjects to photograph are lighthouses. Behind every lighthouse there is a story; the story is what I try to convey through the imagery of the photographs. My main purpose was to capture the history of the disappearing lighthouses in Eastern Canada. See the story behind these lighthouses is that no one wants them anymore.
The government can’t afford to maintain lighthouses so they are selling them, but they is no interest. The facts are lighthouses will be a thing of the past. Therein lies the story of why nature photography is so important to me. It is a way to make time stand still for just a moment. It is our way of capturing history of a time when…
I spent six weeks this last fall photographing as many of the lighthouses as I could. Many of the lighthouses that I saw we are already abandoned and severely neglected. I guess this is when it dawned on me that this might be the last time I ever see most of these lighthouses.
The lighthouses of the Maritimes are a symbol of the towns they showcase. They are a testament to the stories and hardships each has battled. But similar to the environment it seems like no one wants to fight for it anymore.
Is this the way things are going? Will there be a point when we say enough and we start fighting for what is important? What is it going to take for people to take this seriously? – Kevin McNeal
