SUMMARY:Death Valley Spring Edition Workshop 2019 with Erin Babnik and Nick Page
DESCRIPTION:with co-leaders Erin Babnik and Nick Page\n \nJoin Erin Babnik and co-leader Nick Page for seven days of photography\, education\, inspiration and adventure set within the diverse scenery of Death Valley National Park. This special Spring edition of Erin’s popular Death Valley series will cover an unusually broad range of locations\, including remote areas in higher elevations on both ends of the national park. The warmer Spring weather will make these higher elevations more comfortable to visit in addition to bringing a very high potential for early Spring storms that provide especially photogenic conditions. We will also have a chance to photograph wildflowers at the higher elevations during this time of year. \nThis workshop is intended for photographers with a spirit of adventure who would like to further their potential by learning more about the creative concerns and techniques of fine-art landscape photography. Participants will leave this workshop with a great understanding of composition\, aesthetics\, color theory\, creativity\, and visual storytelling. In addition\, you will receive technical training in a wide variety of in-field and post-processing techniques. \nOur locations will include spectacular areas in Death Valley National Park\, one of the largest and most photogenic parks in the United States. We will have opportunities to visit badlands\, diverse desert playas\, dune fields\, ancient canyons\, salt flats\, Joshua Tree groves\, mountain overlooks\, and geologically unique basins. The precise locations of most outings will be determined according to seasonal developments and weather conditions in order to maximize the photographic potential of each day. \nThe workshop will culminate in a substantial post-processing instruction session in the comfort of a hotel conference room. During the processing program\, we will present techniques that focus on both the art and the craft of producing compelling landscape photographs that will result in fine-art prints or online content. \nNo level of experience is necessary for participants of this workshop. Whether you are just beginning or are a seasoned pro\, we are happy to help you move forward with your photography. \nhttps://erinbabnik.com/death-valley-spring-edition-workshop-2019/ \n\n\nDavid CobbLocation: Mosier\, Oregon\nWebsite: www.dmcobbphoto.com\nFacebook: www.Facebook.com/DavidMCobbPhotography\nTwitter: www.twitter.com/dmcobbphoto \nAs a long-distance hiker\, I have sharpened my photographic perspective over the years on the Pacific Crest Trail\, the Continental Divide\, the Canadian Divide and most recently walking across Iceland. My goal is to capture the wonders I see in nature for the enjoyment of all those with an eye for the extraordinary. \nMore posts by David

Because we have a total of five guides\, there will be options for doing some hiking during the workshop in order to reach even more remote destinations\, but these excursions are optional. For the optional hiking excursions\, a moderate level of physical fitness is necessary\, but otherwise a minimal level of fitness is required. \nDavid CobbLocation: Mosier\, Oregon\nWebsite: www.dmcobbphoto.com\nFacebook: www.Facebook.com/DavidMCobbPhotography\nTwitter: www.twitter.com/dmcobbphoto \nAs a long-distance hiker\, I have sharpened my photographic perspective over the years on the Pacific Crest Trail\, the Continental Divide\, the Canadian Divide and most recently walking across Iceland. My goal is to capture the wonders I see in nature for the enjoyment of all those with an eye for the extraordinary. \nMore posts by David

SUMMARY:French Alps 2018 with Erin Babnik and Enrico Fossati (FULL)
DESCRIPTION:With co-leaders Erin Babnik and Enrico Fossati. \nThis all-inclusive French Alps adventure will take us through majestic scenery on both sides of the border between France and Italy. We will begin our trip in a charming French hamlet of the Hautes Alpes\, where we will enjoy the craggy peaks\, waterfalls\, streams\, and alpine lakes of one of the most picturesque valleys of Europe. After three nights in this southern region\, we will head north to the Graian Alps\, basing ourselves in a four-star hotel on the Italian side of the Mont Blanc massif. Here we will enjoy views of the formidable forms of Mont Blanc\, Europe’s highest mountain\, and other distinctive peaks around it. While in this northern region\, we will also visit a series of glacier-fed waterfalls that cascade down a total of 2\,300 feet\, we will stand on the snowy surface of the Glacier du Géant\, and we will visit an azure glacial lake fed by the Vény Glacier to photograph the spires of rock jutting into the atmosphere overhead. The trip will also include a generous post-processing session conducted in the comfort of a hotel conference room. \nYou will have the benefit of two instructors for guidance through these spectacular locations and for the entire process of making compelling photographs\, from in-field techniques to post production. Whether you are a beginning photographer or a seasoned pro\, we are committed to helping you to produce memorable photographs of the French Alps for your portfolio. Topics of instruction include the art of composition\, utilizing different qualities of light ranging from the subtle to the dramatic\, maximizing dynamic range and depth of field through exposure bracketing and focus stacks\, in-field techniques for advanced blending (exposure blends\, perspective blends\, focal-length blends) and for other creative solutions. Learn master processing skills and discover how to make your images more compelling and rewarding. Instruction goes far beyond the basics\, but those who desire help with the fundamentals of photography will certainly be accommodated. Due to the small ratio of participants to instructors\, you will enjoy a more intimate experience\, having more time to work with the instructors on an individual basis. \nAll lodging\, meals\, and transportation between locations is included in the cost of this trip. We will also provide transportation from Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) on June 24 and back again on July 1 (one shuttle transfer running each day). All seven nights of accommodation will be in spa hotels (one 3-star and one 4-star) with single-occupancy\, en-suite rooms.

SUMMARY:Erin's Composition Talk Returns to the Bay Area
DESCRIPTION:“Composition Now: Contemporary Approaches to a Timeless Art”\nComposition is one of the most controversial topics in photography. Some critics deny that it is teachable\, some even say that it is irrelevant in photography\, and then there are people who maintain that composition is more important than light. In this highly unusual exploration of the topic\, Erin Babnik discusses the art of composition with regards to its controversies\, its ancient history\, its evolving trends\, and its ability to help generate meaning in an image. Erin’s points weave together historical\, practical\, and theoretical considerations with a focus on the art of composition in landscape photography. With its wide-ranging ideas\, this talk will be of interest both to landscape photographers and to appreciators of the genre.

Please contact Erin to be notified of future openings.  \nJoin Photo Cascadia teammates Erin Babnik and Sean Bagshaw for a winter adventure like no other…an all new workshop offering for 2018! This unique trip will take us to a variety of magnificent alpine locations in the Dolomites of northern Italy\, complete with seven nights of accommodation with full board\, airport transfer\, and transportation between locations. Our lodging will be a mixture of hotels and beautifully situated alpine huts that put us as close as possible to the most photogenic locations for winter photography. The final day of the trip we will hold a substantial post-processing seminar in the comfort of a hotel conference room. This will be a rare opportunity to get out of the valleys and into the mountains to photograph some of the most spectacular\, craggy\, snow-capped peaks anywhere in the world. Participants will have the benefit of a small group of only eight participants and two instructors\, allowing you to get all of the help that you need with field technique and post-processing instruction.\nThis trip is designed for people with a spirit of adventure who want to experience and photograph some of the more remote locations of the Dolomites. Hiking on this trip will be minimal\, and our modes of travel may include gondolas\, chairlifts\, snow cats\, and snowmobiles as necessary to reach our locations. Whether you are just getting started in photography or are already a seasoned pro\, we will put you in the right place at the right time and will provide you with whatever guidance you require to get unique winter photographs of the Dolomites for your portfolio. \nOur exact itinerary will be determined according to snow conditions and therefore will be made available to registered participants as late as possible. \nFor more information: www.erinbabnik.com/dolomites-winter-edition-2018/ \nInstructors : Erin Babnik and Sean Bagshaw\nContact : www.erinbabnik.com/contact \nDavid CobbLocation: Mosier\, Oregon\nWebsite: www.dmcobbphoto.com\nFacebook: www.Facebook.com/DavidMCobbPhotography\nTwitter: www.twitter.com/dmcobbphoto \nAs a long-distance hiker\, I have sharpened my photographic perspective over the years on the Pacific Crest Trail\, the Continental Divide\, the Canadian Divide and most recently walking across Iceland. My goal is to capture the wonders I see in nature for the enjoyment of all those with an eye for the extraordinary. \nMore posts by David

SUMMARY:Erin to Speak at B&H Event Space in NYC
DESCRIPTION:“Exploration for Landscape Photography: Finding Your Own Frontiers”\nGiven the great many landscape photographs that feature the same\, familiar locations\, it might seem as though those places are all that is worthwhile photographing in the world. The reality is that an astonishing variety of highly photogenic locations are never photographed\, while others are teeming with photographers who may be unaware of their other options. In this talk\, Erin Babnik shares a wealth of information drawn from her own experiences of pioneering new locations for landscape photography. The story begins with a look at creative soul-searching that can be a guiding light in choosing a fruitful direction. From there the discussion continues through the many research strategies and resources that can help to make a large world and distant places become more accessible and familiar. Finally\, Erin offers advice for the ultimate creative process of seeing and responding once the boots hit the ground.
